In Loving Memory Of
Shannon Lee Day
June 26, 1980 - July 4, 1999

This picture is Shannon and his beautiful companion Purdie who has now gone to doggie heaven ...
we lost Purdie July 1st 2007...it was a very sad day for us as it was like losing Shannon all over again.

These three special gifts for Angel Shannon are from my friend Marie.
You can visit her website for her son Rob here ~ Rob Northrop's Site

These two beautiful gifts for Angel Shannon are from my friend Janet.

These are two beautiful and loving gifts to Angel Shannon from my dear friend, Carol, mom to Angel Michael.

When my son Shannon was 7 years old, he was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition
known as ‘Ataxia Telangiectasia.’

Ataxia-telangiectasia is a rare, childhood neurological disorder that causes degeneration in the part of the brain
that controls motor movements and speech. Its most unusual symptom is an acute sensitivity to ionizing radiation,
such as X-rays or gamma-rays. The first signs of the disease, which include delayed development
of motor skills, poor balance, and slurred speech, usually occur during the first decade of life.
Telangiectasias (tiny, red "spider" veins), which appear in the corners of the eyes or on the surface
of the ears and cheeks, are characteristic of the disease, but are not always present and generally
do not appear in the first years of life. About 20% of those with A-T develop cancer,
most frequently acute lymphocytic leukemia or lymphoma. Many individuals with A-T have a weakened immune system,
making them susceptible to recurrent respiratory infections. Other features of the disease may include mild diabetes mellitus,
premature graying of the hair, difficulty swallowing, and delayed physical and sexual development.
Children with A-T usually have normal or above normal intelligence.

There is no cure for A-T and, currently, no way to slow the progression of the disease.
Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Physical and occupational therapy may help maintain flexibility. Speech therapy
may also be needed. Gamma-globulin injections may be given to help supplement a weakened immune system.
High-dose vitamin regimens may also be used. The prognosis for individuals with A-T is poor.
Those with the disease usually die in their teens or early 20s.

Shannon really liked the song "Wind Beneath My Wings," it reminded us of his grandfather (pop)...
we would be driving along in the car, and every time this was played on the radio
we would see eagles soaring in the sky, and we made a bit of a joke of it
saying that was pop looking down on us.....and keeping us all safe. So that is why
we chose that particular song to play on Shannon's web page.

At Shannons funeral we played the songs:

"Have I Told You That I Love You" by Rod Stewart.......
we played this song as we walked into the church.

"Fly" by Celine Dion......this one we played half way through the service.

and this one...."Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler... we played this right at the end
as people put flowers on Shannon's casket, and as it was taken out of the church.

Have I Told You Lately (That I Love You)
Performed by Rod Stewart

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one else above you
Fill my heart with gladness
take away all my sadness
ease my troubles that's what you do

For the morning sun in all it's glory
greets the day with hope and comfort too
You fill my life with laughter
and somehow you make it better
ease my troubles that's what you do
There's a love that's divine
and it's yours and it's mine like the sun
And at the end of the day
we should give thanks and pray
to the one, to the one

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one else above you
Fill my heart with gladness
take away all my sadness
ease my troubles that's what you do

There's a love that's divine
and it's yours and it's mine like the sun
And at the end of the day
we should give thanks and pray
to the one, to the one

And have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one else above you
You fill my heart with gladness
take away my sadness
ease my troubles that's what you do
Take away all my sadness
fill my life with gladness
ease my troubles that's what you do
Take away all my sadness
fill my life with gladness
ease my troubles that's what you do

Fly
Performed by Celine Dion

Fly, fly little wing
Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven's love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again

Fly, fly precious one
Your endless journey has begun
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace forevermore
But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
Until we meet

Fly, fly do not fear
Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don't wait for me
Above the universe you'll climb
On beyond the hands of time
The moon will rise, the sun will set
But I won't forget

Fly, fly little wing
Fly where only angels sing
Fly away, the time is right
Go now, find the light

Wind Beneath My Wings
Performed by Bette Midler

Oh, oh, oh, oh -
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strain.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.

Fly, fly, fly high against the sky,
so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you,
thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings
