This beautiful gift was given to me by my dear friend, Joyce.

In Loving Memory of Annette Lansley Able Sobien
My Mom, My Best Friend
July 5, 1937 - February 15, 2012

My Mom loved owls, so that is why I chose the owls for the backgrounds and graphics on her web pages.

It was 1958, and my mother, Annette Sobien, had just married a Marine stationed in London
who was returning to the United States.
She was about to leave everything she had ever known.

Her parents, Vic and Elsie Able, assured her that she could return to England if she wasn't happy.

Her parents had no reason to worry. Mrs. Sobien sent such glowing descriptions of the country she quickly came to love that her parents and many other members of her family immigrated to the United States. Her Mum, known affectionately as Nanna, her brother Vic and his wife Maureen, and her sister Vivien, nicknamed "Bubbles," all now live in Florida. Her sister Pauline lived in Pittsburgh for a time, but she and her husband Paul now reside back in England.

In the back, left to right, cousins Jackie, Tina and Michelle; in the front, Nanna and my Mom.

My Mom worked for Kroger Grocery until the company closed its Pittsburgh locations during the 1980's. She then worked for Kuhns Foods until her retirement. She was a long-time member of Assumption Parish in Bellevue, where she participated in many charitable events through the church. She also volunteered as financial secretary for several years for the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Bellevue #655. Until her health declined, my Mom also was very active in the Lutheran Senior Center of Bellevue and Silver Sneakers. In her spare time, my Mom mostly loved to visit with her many relatives, play with her dogs, garden, knit and sew. Over the years, she made many trips to Florida to visit with her relatives living there.

This is from our wedding, as is the picture of my Mom at the top of this page. These are some of my very favorite pictures.

As you live on in heaven,
You live on in my heart
You are now God's Angel
Your family and I miss you so much
And we are praying for you
That you are safe in God's loving arms
That you are in peace, in perfect happiness
Smiling, laughing and dancing with the angels
And watching over us
Guiding and protecting us
until we meet with you again...

Mothers and Daughters

You can see it in their eyes,
in tender hugs and long good byes,
a love that only moms and daughters know.

You can see it in their smiles,
through passing years and changing styles,
a friendship that continually seems to grow.

You can see it in their lives,
the joy each one of them derives,
in just knowing that the other one is there....

To care and to understand,
lend an ear or hold a hand,
and to celebrate the memories they share.

Some fun pictures of my Mom and Dad through the years!

These are from the surprise 25th Anniversary party that we threw for my parents!

Both of my parents were great fans of our Pittsburgh Steelers. We had season tickets until Three Rivers Stadium was taken down.

The next few pictures are from when we ran in the Pittsburgh Marathon, and my Mom and Nanna came to cheer us on!

Another of my Mom's favorite singers was Patsy Cline. That is why the song playing on this web page is her "Sweet Dreams."

A friend can hear a tear drop.
