In Loving Memory of
Kathryn Mary Cook

Only God Knows
You came to us early. Why?
Only God Knows.
Ten little fingers, ten little toes.
You left us so early. Why?
Only God Knows.
Ten little fingers, ten little toes.
The poem above was written by Kathryn's grandma,
who also wanted to honor her granddaughter with this web page.
This beautiful gift is from our dear friend Cathy.
Kathryn's Story, as written by her loving Grandma
Tanya and Mike, (my daughter and son-in-law) are the parents of angel Kathryn Mary. This was their first child. Tanya's due date with Kathryn was April 27,02. The pregnancy was perfect up until March 22,when Tanya started to have contractions and was admitted to the hospital. Her drs. stopped the contractions and she was sent home but put on bedrest. Kathryn was born the following week on March 27, 2002. She was born exactly 1 month early.
Kathryn Mary weighed 5 lbs. 6 oz. and she was 18ins. long. and was born at 11:43am. I have never seen such an alert new born baby. She even had a smile for her first picture taken in the hospital. Her weight seemed good for being born early and lung function was good. There was one problem and that was a low temperature. They were told that wasn't too much of a problem because early born babies seem to have low temperatures. They were discharged from the hospital 2 days
after Kathryn was born.
This was the picture that was taken at the hospital before she came home.
I think she knew then that her time on earth was going to be short,
just look at that smile...
My daughter decided to breast feed and was very excited and at the same time worried that it wouldn't work. At the hospital she did have a hard time at first but then it seemed that things were going ok. The day after they came home from the hospital my husband and I came home. We live in Pennsylvania and they in Maryland. Kathryn was now 3 days old.
These are four special gifts for Angel kathryn from my friend Marie.

These are two beautiful and loving gifts for Angel Kathryn from my dear friend, Carol, mom to Angel Michael.
That night Tanya called me to ask why Kathryn would be spitting up. She was concerned because breast fed babies normally don't spit up because the don't suck in any air to upset their stomach. I didn't have an answer and told her to call the pediatrican or go directly to the er. One reason she was so concerned was thet the spit up was a little yellowish in color. While waiting for the dr. to call back my son-in-law took Kathryn's temp. It was 91 degrees and they immediately took her to the er. This was not a plesant experiance. They had to wait forever in the waiting area after filling out paper work. All the while Kathryn is vomiting. After making some complaints they were finally taken in.
More waiting, tests, more waiting, tests. They wasted so much time, when they finally figured out what was wrong with Kathryn, they pretty muched passed her off as "not my problem." It was stated that she may have a blockage and a surgeon was called in D.C. More time was wasted getting her to the hospital in D.C. Everyone was frantic but a little optimistic because this surgen had preformed many of these surgeries. My husband and I stayed at home until we heard from Tanya and Mike.It was Sunday, March 31,02. We in Pennsylvania were having heavy rain storms so Tanya told us to stay put until they knew more.
After the surgeon examined Kathryn and read her test results he talked to Tanya and Mike and again reassured them that this operation was done by him many times. My son-in-law also checked into this surgeon and he was found to be one of the best. Kathryn was taken into surgery and the waiting began. Along with my daughter and son-in-law were his parents,
so they were not alone.
When the surgery was done the news was not good. The surgeon came out with bad news. He told them that Kathryn's large intestine was completly dead. The term he used was a malrotation of her intestine. At about 19 to 20 weeks of pregnancy, all babies' intestines rotate and settle into the belly. There are also blood vessels that are connected to the intestine. In Kathryn's case, her intestine just continued to rotate, and didn't quite settle when it was supposed to. Therefore it kept rotating and finally cut off the circulation to her lower intestine, rendering it dead. Once that happens, unfortunately there is not really
anything that can be done.
Our Kathryn was not in any pain while she was with us. She became an angel at 9:40 pm on March 31,02. Kathryn died peacefully in her daddy's arms. She was named after my mother, Tanya's grandmother, Kathryn, and my son-in-law's grandmother, Mary.
We only had her with us 4 days but she is loved more and more everyday of our lives.
When God calls little children,
To dwell with him above.
We mortals sometimes question,
The wisdom of his love.
For no heartache compares with
The death of one small child
Who does so much to make our world
Seem wonderful, and mild.
Perhaps God tires of calling
The aged to his fold,
And so he picks a rosebud,
Before it can grow old.
God knows how much we need them,
And so he takes but few,
To make the land of Heaven
More beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult
Still, somehow we must try,
The saddest word mankind knows
Will always be "Goodbye".
So when a little child departs,
We who are left behind
Must realize, God loves children
Angels are hard to find.
This wonderful globe and also some of the other beautiful graphics on this page are all gifts to Kathryn from Gennie.
My daughter Tanya and son-in-law, Mike had their second child, a son, on February 3, 03. His name is Michael K.

Thank you to my dear friend Sheri, for this gift for Kathryn,
for the frames on some of the photos and some of the wonderful tags
for this page also.
May the love of your angel,
sweetly enfold you,
Gently uplift you,
Comfort and hold you.
"A Life so Brief, A child so small,
you had the power to touch us all"
Dearest Little ANGEL Kathryn
I must say sweetheart my tears kept coming when I was reading your site.
What really got me too was your Grandma, she was so very proud of you. All the photo's of you I loved, but the one I loved the most was when you were all dressed up inside a globe, it what so priceless.
Mommy and Daddy too were so proud of you. You probably know that already though, as you watch over your family from Heaven.
Although you are not here in person,
you can still be a Big Sister to your brother Michael K.
Unfortunately Darling you never got to meet him, but what I loved
was that in honor of you
Mommy and Daddy took the K from your name, for Michael's middle name,
so you see he will carry a part of you forever.
REST IN EVERLASTING PEACE PRETTY GIRL
To Tanya, Mike, ANGEL Kathryn,
Michael and Grandma
ANGEL Kathryn has not left you
She will always remain in your Heart
Whatever you say, do, wherever you go
You will never be that far apart
When you think of your ANGEL
Don't think of her as gone
Just look up, open your Heart
One Special Cloud, She will be lying on
Oh Mommy and Daddy
I am just away for a little while
There will be one day
When we will see each other smile
I have met so many wonderful ANGEL'S
The things I do, the things I play
I can't wait for you all to be here
When your time comes
TO ME A SPECIAL DAY
MY DEEPEST LOVE
